We’ve all at some point been given advice along the lines of “Have more confidence!” But if it were as easy as being told to do so, wouldn’t we already BE more confident? Building confidence is less of a light switch and more of a 10,000 piece puzzle. Brendan Burchard, in this weeks focus “High-Performance Habits” breaks down how long-term building confidence really can be.
You can see how this plays out if you’ve ever gone to the gym. The first time you’re there, you don’t really know what to do with all the weights and machines. So you’re uncertain and perhaps even awkward in your workout. But the more you go, the more you know. Soon, you’re confident in your ability to use the weights and machines, and the more you know how to use them, the more you start pushing yourself. You weren’t “born confident” in the gym; you got confident. Confidence is not a fixed personality trait. Its a muscle you build through exertion. ” Brendan Burchard (pg.330)
