Smarter Faster Better: Motivation

Why, when we wait for motivation to strike, does it rarely come? Because motivation isn’t something that simply comes out of thin air, we need to create it. When we wait for it to strike, we’re simply being lazy and trying to justify not getting any work done. Going back to yesterdays quote, we can create motivation by reminding ourselves WHY we’re sitting down in the chair and WHY we’re working on the task at hand.

Motivation is triggered by making choices that demonstrate (to ourselves) that we are in control- and that we are moving toward goals that are meaningful. It’s that feeling of self-determination that gets us going.” -Charles Duhigg (pg.273)
